What affects your payout

A dealer's offer is rarely the headline rate. These are the usual deductions.

Buying and selling questions

Will a dealer pay me the rate shown on this site?

No. Our rate is the metal benchmark. Dealers apply a margin below it when buying and above it when selling, which is what the spread setting above models.

What spread should I assume?

It varies by market and by piece. Start with 2% on buying and 4% on selling, then adjust to the quote you actually receive.

Is it better to sell jewellery or bars?

Bars and coins usually attract a smaller deduction because purity is easy to verify and there is no non-gold weight.
